Michael Meade describes the attitude of dismissing dangerous and potentially fatal issues as being under a spell that makes people “wrong-headed” and potentially delusional and strangely self-destructive.
In modern, mass societies, falling under spells can become more common because people tend to harden as individuals too early, before experiencing the deeper feelings that open both the heart and the mind. People can become arrogant and defensive about who they are and what they deserve before they have actually become anything like what their soul intends them to be.
In mythological terms, the spell falls exactly where changes must occur for conscious growth to actually happen. By facing up to the issues at hand, no matter how complicated, things get “spelled out” and everyone can become more conscious and more humanly interconnected.
