Please join us for a special evening of songs and rhythms that invite the awakening presence of spirit and the healing emotions of soul. During this time of great uncertainty and the prevalence of war, we turn in the old way, to song and rhythm, to poetry and dance, which can carry the burdens of living along the old roads to the Soul of the World.

For many years, Mosaic has gathered songs from traditions throughout the world, seeking to learn and share the surprising ways in which music allows people to connect and celebrate, grieve and heal and touch the ecstatic grounds and peaceful haunts of the soul. This evening will celebrate songs and rhythms and share key ideas of how they are used to open, cleanse and vitalize individual and community life.

Sacred Song and Approaches to Ritual

ONE-DAY INTENSIVE WORKSHOP FOR WOMEN AND MEN
join Michael Meade, Malidoma Some, Jack Kornfield & Orland Bishop
9:30 am - 5:30 pm, Sunday, February 23, Lone Mountain Center, Room #148
2800 Turk Street, San Francisco, CA 94118

In many cultures songs are used to carry what is otherwise hard to bear and to alter what otherwise resists change. Often, the threshold between worlds and between people can be opened most readily through rhythm, song and poetic speech. These and other basic elements of creative ritual can be used both to separate and rejoin the sacred and the profane.

In these troubled and chaotic times the unifying, clarifying and healing nature of song and ritual becomes essential for orienting and guiding both personal and community life.

Mixing poetic speech, songs and cross-cultural practices we seek to refind radical roots that can inspire change, nourish new ideas and foster healing where obstacles appear insurmountable and despair seems inevitable. In this workshop, we will explore approaches to ritual and ways that song and rhythm carry the natural prayerfulness and devotion of the human soul.
